Telerik CTPs RadControls for Silverlight 2`

Keywords: , , ,

If you haven’t seen the demos yet, go to Telerik’s demo page and prepare to spend some time!

I saw this back when it was a demo or maybe an early beta. I typically don’t like to talk about things until they are available to everyone and this now one is.

Log yourself into their site and create an account. That’ll take you straight to the downloads and you can scoop up all this SL2 goodness. Remember it is a CTP, so give feedback where necessary and blog your own darn self when you’ve got something fun running using it — and submit it to SilverlightCream too

I have downloaded but not tried it yet :( … I spent way too much time playing with the demo the way it was :)

Stay in the ‘Light!

SharePoint Log on nags

Keywords: , , , , ,

If you keep getting nagged for log ons when using sharepoint this will solve the problem almost 100% of the time. The trick is to use the Windows managed Stored username and password feature. To access this,

1. Simply go into Control Panel
2. Click User Accounts
3. Go into Managed Passwords and click Add
4. Type the URL of the server (without HTTP), for example portal.us.com
5. Enter your credentials and click Ok

Now anytime Windows attempts to access ANYTHING on this server it will use the use those credentials and your prompting issue should go away.

The downside to this is if you change your password, you need to remember to come change it here.

When it comes to your security, no web browser is perfect - and no malware app is going to catch everything. I came across BufferZone Free a few weeks ago and have been running it since, and I’m pretty impressed. BufferZone adds another layer of protection to your browser by setting up a sandbox (an isolated “virtual directory” on your hard drive). As Trustware puts it, the program “transparently redirects modifications in your PC to a virtual, isolated environment, so that ... Read More

10 Easy Steps to use Google App Engine as your own CDN

Thanks to Google anyone can now run their own CDN for free on Googles servers. It is really easy to set up and storing files for downloads, stylesheets etc on Google instead of on your own site takes the load of your servers (and consumes much less bandwidth of your hosting account) and speeds things up for the end users.

Some terrible (truly terrible) captcha’s

Keywords: , , ,

I think we all agree that we need -some- form a protection against spambots automatically signing in to gmail accounts, posting annoying links in webforms, etc. But man, there’s got to be a limit. Captcha’s are generally considered as a “bad user experience”, and should be avoided as much as possible. These guys didn’t take the hint.

Java: Getting Thread Time with ThreadMXBean

Keywords: , , , ,

Getting performance or timing information about an operation in a multithreaded Java application has always been a challenge. The problem has been that most stopwatch functions accounted for the time that the thread took to execute, but included time from other threads executing in parallel in the background. These other threads cause your thread to yield for a period and thus skew your performance statistics. The way around it was to use a performance tool that could track the other threads and calculate an approximation of how long your thread actually took to execute.
