SharePoint Log on nags

Keywords: , , , , ,

If you keep getting nagged for log ons when using sharepoint this will solve the problem almost 100% of the time. The trick is to use the Windows managed Stored username and password feature. To access this,

1. Simply go into Control Panel
2. Click User Accounts
3. Go into Managed Passwords and click Add
4. Type the URL of the server (without HTTP), for example portal.us.com
5. Enter your credentials and click Ok

Now anytime Windows attempts to access ANYTHING on this server it will use the use those credentials and your prompting issue should go away.

The downside to this is if you change your password, you need to remember to come change it here.

Windows CE: How to buy Windows CE or Platform Builder

Keywords: , , , , , , , ,
With so many Microsoft products it is very easy to purchase a license. But how do you by Windows CE? If you want to purchase Windows Vista, you would go to a store (either bricks or clicks) and by the DVD installation and off you are running. That just isn’t the way Windows CE works.
Windows CE is not a typical off the shelf operating system; it is an operating system for embedded computers. So what is an embedded computer? An embedded computer is a special purpose computer that has custom software running on it. How does Microsoft fit into that? Microsoft developed an operating system that can be customized by the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) which is Windows CE.
To purchase Windows CE, you will first need to purchase the development tools so that you can create a custom Windows CE OS. The development tools are commonly known as Platform Builder. Microsoft has more formal names depending on the version. The demand for Platform Builder is probably fairly low compared to other Microsoft products, so you won’t find Platform Builder on the shelf at the local Big Box store, or even online stores.
You will need to start a relationship with a Microsoft Distributor. You can start this process by visiting Microsoft Authorized Embedded Distributor Search where you will first select the area of the world that best fits your location. Keep in mind that the typical user of Platform Builder is an OEM, so the expectation is that you will soon be shipping products that will require a Windows CE license sticker, so this relationship will come in handy.

Everyone is streaming in trying to find the optimal seat. After four hours of waiting in line, I don’t care where I sit just as long as I am sitting. There are large plasmas all over the place which is good – from my vantage point, Jobs is going to be a dot. Huge applause – Al Gore is here in the audience. From my seat:

More cheesy pre-show music …

Coca Touch – Media – Core Services – Core OS

Line for line same source code as Mac OS X

New feature called core location allows for location based services

Core Audio – open GL es and surround sound

Coca touch – OOF and UI optimized for full screen touch interface, makes building it a breeze

X Code will be used to write edit and debug

Interface builder lets you construct the user interface and then insert in code

iPhone emulator to debug and test

Instruments allows you to test, benchmark and appropriately size your apps.

SDK Demo with Interface builder

Interface builder interacts with X Code and knows about each other. Then compile in X Code and complete. Test in the simulator. Plug an iPhone in to the computer and you can then test on that iPhone. Signs it automatically, loads it on the iPhone and you can test. Debugger loads automatically. Looks at the location with location based services and can sort data based on that.

More developer demos.

Sega gets big round of applause for having Super Monkey Ball for the iPhone. In three months all development was complete. Game will launch with app store for $10

eBay – auctions on iPhone – watch lists and custom searches give updates in real time. Find out when you get out bid and when things you are tracking go on sale. Filmstrip allows you view all photos associated with sale. Will go live with the app store.

Loopt – location with a social network. Using location based services, you can see your friends on the map and see where they are. You can also share photos, comments and emails about\with where you are. Communicate with friends and get directions to where they are. Never eat lunch alone again. :) Free when the app store launches.

TypePad – post to their blogging platform natively from the iPhone. Blog the moment. Send photos straight to blog. Select photos from the photo album, scale and add. Add blog comments, choose blog, keywords, tags, etc. Then publish straight to blog. You can also view via Safari to check final product. Free at launch of app store.

Associated Press – mobile news network, read news streams, watch video, email stories to friends, you can also report the news you see from the iPhone (hmmmm – wonder how that will work out). Completed entire app in 5 weeks. Free from app store at launch.

More demos, more demos, I will be back after all the demos . . . .

MLB.com has media minutes on the iPhone after it happens. Near realtime streaming video.

And, a developer from an insurance agency developed an awesome band\musical application that allows you to make music on your iPhone.

Modality made an iPhone based app for medical students to learn all the parts of the body on in stunning detail with annotations and definitions. Quiz mode, etc. Brilliant.

MIMvista medical imaging software – medical imaging is a lot of data and a lot of action. They are showing slices of a fusion study from a CAT scan and metabolism from a PET scan at the same time in composite mode like a weather map. You can even self-mix it and they had a prototype in 3 weeks and a working model soon there after. It looks amazing and the detail is phenomenal. You can mark up all the images and make measurements, etc on screen. When you want to erase them you just shake the phone like an Etch-a-Sketch!!

Digital Legends has only been working on this for two weeks with the SDK. Demo of a game called Krull which looked absolutely amazing with full OpenGL 3D graphics. Available in Sept.

Demos over. Phew. Lets here the news!!!

Developers want notifications on actions even when the user is not running the app. IM and eBay alerts even when not running the app. They dont want to do this using background running apps. Drains battery and hinders performance. Just slammed WM6 using its task manager to kill background processes, like a “game or challenge” to keep your phone running well. Push notifications service will be used instead.

You can push badges to show how many unread emails you have, you can push sounds and you can push text alerts with actionable buttons. It scales. Works OTA on both WiFi and cellular networks.

Thats it for SDK updates.

Few more features:

contact search

Full iWork document support

Full Office document support

Bulk delete and move for email

Save images from email right to photo library

Scientific calculator

Parental controls

The whole love/hate thing with Micro$oft (just saying what we are all thinking)

Keywords: , , , , , , ,

Why did we - the general public give a company so much when they give us nothing but shit half the time.  Seriously, why does Microsoft suck?  I mean really, I like using the .NET framework it’s nice and simple and I get things done really fast - but the code within it is terrible (if you ever get a copy of reflector and look at it you will see what I mean) alas, I will save that rant for another day - today we feast on all that is XP and Vista!

Nothing they build works right, there is always an assload of bugs in everything they ship expecting us - the consumer to beta test it before the first service pack comes out…  What a load of shit,  see if GM, Ford or NASA can get away with that half assed crap and see how long they last,  what the hell…  I should also mention, It’s really fun watching them clowns at work too - at the end of a development cycle they spend more time throwing away shit they couldn’t pull off on time because of the cheap ass programmers they hired to write the shit.  It’s almost good enough for prime-time comedy.  They could make a sitcom out of it,  I can just see a line from it now -

MS Director of project (surrounded by chimps wearing white shirts and ties): “Oh no! - we are coming to the end of our development cycle - time to spit out half of what we bit off and couldn’t chew again! “wah wah sound effect”.

The PM: Don’t worry the public will eat it anyway!  (laughter and applause)…

Whatever…

Their new OS is pretty, but it sucks memory, CPU and MY ASS.  Sure it has lots of features, but why do I need to purchase a super charged PC just to run it?  What a bunch of shit. And if that wasn’t enough now they have a  new and improved insidious trick to try and force us all to drink their crappy vista flavored kool-aid - the whole “let’s remove the address bar in our latest service pack trick” - but who will they blame it on… The government of course!   I can just hear it now in their little secret pow-wow…

MS exec 1- we are not selling enough copies of Vista and users are going back to XP this is causing me personal problems, I mean seriously - I REALLY WANT THE RED BMW - I only have the black one and white one I WANT A RED ONE TOO!!11

MS exec 2:  I have an idea - let’s remove a feature that lots of people like in XP but leave it in Vista so they will switch!  (and by the way) - BMW’s are for the help - buy a better more expensive car for christ’s sake you are representing us you loser!

MS exec 1: (ignoring the car comment) brilliant!  But who will we blame it on?!

MS exec 2: the Anti Trust Division!

MS exec 1: You’re so smart!  I want to have your babies!  I am going to go put my new car on reserve right NOW!

So here is what happens to us poor slobs…

Just upgrade to the latest and greatest service pack (SP3) and if you like having the address bar on your task bar, suddenly your fucked because it went away and now you can’t have it back.  I am so sick of it.  I wasted a good hour of my life (multiple reboots and various attempts take time) that I can’t get back now, fixing it so I can have it back.  And what’s worse - it’s not even removed in a way that cannot be reverted by someone who knows how to use the XP shell (it’s a typical Microsoft hackfest). To put it back all you have to do is replace one .DLL (browseui.dll) with an older version…

Of course the noob hackers out there that figured this out will not tell you that the damn file is locked by the OS - so you have to rename it first then copy the new one (or rather the one from SP2) back in before it will work.  (and no safe mode does not unlock the god damned thing so don’t even mention that shit or the flames will rise).

So now that I have my address bar back - I am happy again - still propagating the shit that is Microsoft’s platform - can’t help it - a guys gotta eat and feed his family doesn’t he?

So truly is what do I hate more?  Having to buy shit with cash - or using Micro$oft’s shitty software to make that cash so I can buy shit.  Oh forget it - my head is going to explode.

Oh and I am still waiting on the patch for TFS 2008 automated builds - I miss the good old days of Cruise Control when this shit actually worked.

Here’s a links to those little gems (there are two) if you are interested…
